Divot Board Guide: What It Shows and Which Size to Choose
A Divot Board is a reusable golf contact trainer that records where the club brushes its surface and the direction of the mark. It gives you a visible answer to two useful practice questions: where did the club meet the ground, and which way did it travel through the contact area?
Quick choice: is a Divot Board the right purchase?
Choose it when you want visible ground-contact feedback for iron, wedge, or chipping practice. Choose according to how you will use it, rather than expecting it to measure ball flight or diagnose your whole swing.
| Your practice goal | Starting choice | Current product price |
|---|---|---|
| Regular practice position and fuller iron work | Original Divot Board | $99.99 |
| Chips, wedges, shorter irons, travel and compact storage | Divot Board MINI | $59.99 |
| Original plus a spare feedback surface | Starter Bundle | Check the current bundle price |
| Original integrated into a larger turf station | Complete Home Range | Check current contents and price |

What it can answer: where the club first contacted the surface, and the direction of the visible trace. What it cannot answer: carry distance, launch, spin, club-face angle, or the cause of a swing fault. For those needs, use appropriate measured data or coaching rather than treating a contact trace as a full diagnosis.
Start with controlled short swings and clear space, using the low-point practice plan. Practicing with a ball also requires a suitable target and containment. A contact trainer alone is not a complete net-and-mat station.

That feedback is valuable because a forgiving practice mat can conceal a heavy strike. A visible mark makes each repetition measurable, even when you practice without a ball.

What the mark can show
The reversible surface preserves the club's trace until you reset it. Compare the beginning of the mark with the printed ball position.
- A mark beginning behind the ball position shows ground contact before the intended strike point.
- A mark beginning at or just beyond the ball position shows a more forward low point for an ordinary iron or wedge shot.
- The direction of the trace gives you a visible path reference through the contact area.
- Repeated heel-side or toe-side patterns give you something concrete to show an instructor.
One mark does not diagnose the cause of the swing. Use several swings to identify a pattern. A coach can then connect that pattern to setup and motion.
How to use it
- Place the board on a stable surface with safe swing clearance.
- Align the printed ball position with your normal setup.
- Make a controlled swing with or without a ball.
- Read where the mark begins and the direction it travels.
- Reset the surface and repeat.
Start with short swings. Add length and speed only when the contact pattern remains predictable. Read the low-point practice plan for a seven-session progression.

Choose by practice style
Choose the Original when
- you want a dedicated home or range practice station;
- you expect to make fuller swings with a wider variety of clubs;
- you want the largest available feedback length; or
- you may later add the Turf Upgrade Kit.
Choose the MINI when
- portability matters most;
- you focus on chips, pitches, wedges, and shorter irons;
- your practice or storage space is limited; or
- you want a compact trainer that is easy to carry.
Choose a bundle when
- you already know you will use the board regularly;
- a spare replacement surface is useful; or
- you want a full stance and hitting mat around the Original.
Match the base to the floor
On grass, compatible turf, or carpet, the board's anchors may provide the intended hold. On hardwood, tile, concrete, or another hard flat floor, use the model-specific grip accessory.
The Original and MINI grip pads are not interchangeable. The same applies to their replacement feedback pads.
What it does not replace
A feedback board does not measure ball speed, launch, spin, carry, or club-face angle. It does not observe your body motion. It also cannot tell you which swing change is appropriate from the trace alone.
Think of it as a ground-contact record. Use a launch monitor for ball and club data, video for visible motion, and a qualified coach for individualized diagnosis.
Replacement pads and ongoing use
The feedback surface is replaceable, so normal wear does not require a completely new board. Choose the replacement made for your model:
Check whether your existing board uses the current hook-and-loop attachment before ordering a replacement. Contact support if you are unsure which generation you own.
Before ordering
Confirm the model, practice surface, swing clearance, use of real or practice balls, ball containment, and included items. Indoor use still requires enough room for the golfer and club. Review shipping and delivery and returns and refunds before opening or using the product.
