Build a Home Golf Practice Setup in Three Steps

by Good Round Supply

A useful home golf practice setup does not have to begin with a simulator. Start with one repeatable task, make the area safe, and choose the smallest setup that gives you useful feedback. You can add a net, launch monitor, or simulator layer later.

Here are three clear starting paths using Good Round Supply's current practice products.

Path 1: compact contact station

Choose this when: storage is limited, you practice chips and shorter swings, or you want feedback you can carry.

Start with the Divot Board MINI Contact Trainer. The manufacturer positions the MINI for chipping, wedges, short irons, travel, and small-space practice. It can record ground contact with or without a ball.

Add the MINI Grip Pad when the practice surface is a hard, flat floor. Add the MINI Replacement Pad when the current feedback surface eventually wears.

You still need full club clearance. Use a real ball only with appropriate containment.

Path 2: dedicated strike-feedback station

Choose this when: you have a regular practice position and want to progress from short swings into broader iron practice.

Start with the Divot Board Low-Point and Contact Trainer. Its longer feedback area is designed for a dedicated home or range station. The Starter Bundle includes the Original plus a replacement pad for golfers who expect frequent use.

On a hard floor, match it with the Original Grip Pad. On compatible grass, turf, or carpet, follow the manufacturer's setup instructions for the board's own anchors.

Use the low-point practice plan instead of taking unstructured repetitions.

Path 3: full stance-and-contact station

Choose this when: you have a permanent practice area and want your stance and contact trainer integrated into a larger turf surface.

The Complete Home Range includes a full-size Divot Board and a 4-by-5-foot turf mat. It is the fastest current path to a fuller station.

Already own the Original? The Turf Upgrade Kit includes the 4-by-5-foot turf mat, an Original replacement pad, and three rubber tees. The Divot Board itself is not included with the upgrade kit.

Measure the floor and full swing area before ordering. A 4-by-5-foot mat footprint does not establish safe club or ball clearance.

What every setup still needs

Requirement No-ball practice Hitting a ball
Full club clearance Required Required
Stable hitting surface Required Required
Ball containment Not applicable Required
Protection for people and property Required Required
Lighting and visibility Recommended Required
Noise and vibration check Recommended Required indoors

When The Net Return products are published, Good Round Supply will add net and containment paths to this guide. Until then, select a properly sized containment system independently and verify its current manufacturer instructions.

Add technology only when it answers a question

A launch monitor can add ball and club data, but it does not replace safe containment or room planning. Video can reveal visible motion. A contact trainer reveals the ground mark. Decide what you want to measure before buying another device.

For a full simulator, begin with the room measurement guide, then review what a complete simulator package includes.

A ten-minute practice structure

  1. Make five slow no-ball swings and record the contact point.
  2. Make ten short swings with one target-side contact goal.
  3. Add a ball only if the area has proper containment.
  4. Alternate five practice swings and five shots.
  5. Finish by recording the most common pattern and the next session's single goal.

The goal is measurable practice, not maximum repetition. Stop when the surface shifts, the area becomes unsafe, or you feel pain.
